Welcome

Welcome to the Sacramento State Club Volleyball. We are your one stop website for information about club volleyball at Sac State. Our men's team has been around for over 25 years and in many years, field two teams. The men's teams have had great success over the years and strive to continue that strong tradition. The women's team, started in the 2002 season, has had a successful start and looks to improve each and every year.

NCCVL Strength:

At the 2008 NIRSA National Volleyball Championships, the Northern California Collegiate Volleyball League (NCCVL) once again proved it's strength as one of the nations strongest collegiate leagues. This year the NCCVL had 20 teams (14 men, 6 women) travel to Dallas and compete for a national championship among 7 divisions (4 mens, 3 womens). This is how it turned out...

20 NCCVL Teams travelled and competed
17 teams finished in the top half of their division
15 teams made it to at least a top 10 finish
6 teams made it to at least a top 5 finish
4 teams made it to at least the semi-final match
3 teams made it to the national championship match
1 team was crowned a 2008 national champion!

The NCCVL was also well represented in the 2008 National All Tournament Teams.

1 player named All Tournament Libero
1 player named Most Valuable Player
8 players named to a First All Tournament Team
8 players named to a Second All Tournament Team
13 players named All Tournament Honorable Mention

NIRSA Results:

Power pools were completed Friday, brackets were filled and single elimination played out throughout Saturday.

The Hornet men competed in their Power Pool first and needed to win both matches in order to advance into Saturday's Silver bracket. The first power pool match was against Northern Illinois. The Hornets split the first two games and lost 10-15 in the deciding third game. Sac State then swept UC Santa Barbara. As the Hornet men went 1-1 in their power pool, they advanced to Saturday's Bronze bracket to compete for 33rd place.

When the Hornet women competed in their respective Power Pool, they needed to win at least one of their two matches in oder to advance into Saturday's Gold bracket. First up was Miami of Ohio B. In 2007, the Hornet women were swept by Miami OH B in pool play. This year, the Hornet women were again defeated by Miami OH B, but by a score of 12-15 in the third game. Sac State also played Georgetown in 2007 and defeated the Hoyas in 3 games during single elimination play. This year, both teams were defeated by Miami OH B and needed the win to qualify for the Gold bracket. Due to close competition, the Sac State - Georgetown match happend to also be the final match to start Friday night. The Hornet women played with determination and swept the Hoyas to earn their first ever appearance in a NIRSA Gold bracket.

Saturday is the day that NIRSA participants play until you lose or win it all. The men again were the first Hornets to compete Saturday. The Hornet men went up against Northeastern in this 1st round of single elimination play. Again the men split the first two games and had to go to a final 3rd game to decide the match. Sac State lost the final game 12-15 and were eliminated from the tournament. The women's 1st round match was against Toledo. The Hornet women could not get into any kind of rythm and were swept.

The 2008 NIRSA National Tournament set a few records for Sacrament State Club Volleyball. The Hornet women advanced into a Gold bracket for the first time and finished a program best, 9th place. Unfortunately, the Hornet men finished a dissappointing 41st place. The national tournament ends this year's Collegiate Club Volleyball season. Next year's national tournament will again head back to Kansas City, MO between April 9-11, 2009.
