FORMER HORNET JASON BORCHIN NAMED ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH
6/2/2010
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State head volleyball coach Ruben Volta announced today that former Hornet Jason Borchin will join the coaching staff as an assistant for the upcoming season.
Borchin, who played for the Sacramento State men’s volleyball team in 2006 and 2007, takes over for longtime assistant Weidi Zhang, who recently retired.
Every member of the Hornets’ coaching staff is now a former Sacramento State volleyball player, comprised of Volta (played for the men’s team from 1991-93 and 1995), assistant Sarah Chlebana (played for the women’s team from 1997-00) and Borchin (2006-07).
A graduate of Oakmont High School and a native of Roseville, Borchin has six years of coaching experience, including numerous stops at the intercollegiate, high school and club levels. That includes serving as a volunteer assistant for the Sacramento State’s women’s team in 2007, when the squad went 29-8 while reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament and winning both the Big Sky Conference’s regular season and tournament titles.
“Having already coached here a few years ago, Jason is familiar with our program and it’s nice to have him back,” Volta said. “He brings a lot of coaching and playing experience, and he’ll be a good fit with our team. Jason has a very good demeanor, a strong work ethic and he will work primarily with our outside hitters and passers.”
